International Trade Negotiations

Canadian dairy farmers closely monitor the World Trade Organization and other bilateral trade negotiations. Canadian farmers also exchange and work with other farmers who share concerns over the impacts of trade agreements on their livelihoods and communities.

Canada is a farming nation. It needs policies that encourage and promote continued success for Canadian farmers and our customers.

In support of our goals, there are an increasing number of calls for agriculture to be treated differently than other markets due to the fact that it is essential to the life of all people. The recent food crisis had the biggest impacts on the poorest countries and their populations. Moreover, increased deregulation of markets has proven many times to lead to higher price volatility – volatility that hurts those with lower incomes the worst. Dairy Farmers of Canada believes that a regulated environment is better positioned to assure food security across the globe.
