To Economic Sustainability

DFC works to maintain profitable, independent farms within a dynamic system of supply management.

Between 1942 and the Second World War, the mandate of DFC evolved to pursue market stability policies and ensure fairer prices for farmers.

DFC has played a major role in the development of supply management. In the 1960s and 70s, to ensure the sustainable development of efficient Canadian dairy farms, the federal and provincial governments and agricultural producers implemented a supply management system based on collective marketing and production planning, adjusted to the needs of the Canadian market.
