Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Program

2001 – 2006
The GHGMP was a five-year program part of a Government of Canada initiative to address climate change and global warming, and more specifically, the role of agriculture in helping Canada reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It promoted soil, nutrient and livestock management practices that reduce GHG emissions.
The program involved Dairy Farmers of Canada, the Soil Conservation Council of Canada, Canadian Cattlemen's Association, and the Canadian Pork Council.
Government funding was made available to develop projects and organize events that promote awareness and the adoption of "best management practices" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Here is the final report for dairy activities .
Here are a few handouts that showcased dairy producers alleviating their impact on the environment:

Here are the final results of four main research projects carried out under this program, which has helped dairy producers find new ways to reduce GHG emissions.
