Get Enough

Get Enough

On October 5th, 2009, DFC launched its new national nutrition campaign Get Enough. Highlighting the fact that the majority of Canadians do not consume enough milk and milk products, this campaign encourages consumers to get the recommended servings of Milk and Alternatives according to Canada’s Food Guide.

The Get Enough campaign informs Canadians about serving size misconceptions, as well as raise awareness of the nutrient richness and lesser-known health benefits of milk products.

An online Ipsos-Reid survey was conducted on behalf of DFC, in collaboration with Dietitians of Canada, between August 5th and August 7th, 2009 with 2,292 Canadians aged 18 and over.

The survey revealed that the four food groups from Canada’s Food Guide are under-consumed by Canadians across the country, especially Milk and Alternatives and Vegetables and Fruit. Moreover, this survey revealed that serving sizes and the correct number of servings are often misunderstood.

The survey also indicated that, for each of the food groups, a significant number of people reported not consuming any of that food group on the day prior to the survey.

A disturbing 79 percent of Canadian men and 76 percent of Canadian women (aged 19 to 50) did not get the recommended number of servings of milk and alternatives, and 91 percent of Canadian men and women (aged 19 to 50) did not get the recommended number of servings of vegetables and fruit.
